Ready to order your Christmas cards and gifts? | Charlotte, NC | Newborn Photographer

November 25, 2023

On this Small Business Saturday, if you’re wondering how to support this small business of mine, look no further! As a photographer, I am picky about the companies I use to print photo products. High quality photos deserve high quality printing, and I want the best for all of my clients. Here are a few gift ideas along with discount codes so that you can save big this holiday season!

If you’re looking for photo gifts for your family or even to keep for yourself, you can order prints and products directly from your photo gallery. You can choose from a wide range of products including prints, ornaments, and albums. Each of those products come from my professional print lab, so I stand by the quality of each piece. You can also reach out to me directly about ordering a silhouette necklace if you had a silhouette session recently!

If you were photographed by me in the last month (no matter the location or whether we were joined by Santa), you should have received an invitation from Minted along with your final images. If you didn’t see it, check your spam! Clicking the link will bring your holiday photos straight into Minted where you can start designing your cards. When you use the link in the email invitation, you’ll receive a 15-20% discount on your purchases. It makes ordering your holiday cards and gifts so, so easy!🙌

Pretty in Polka Dots makes gorgeous real wood photo ornaments. These are my favorite way to spice up your tree in a personal and unique way each year. These ornaments are made of solid wood and are BIG so they make a statement for sure! They also come in sets of 3, which is convenient when you need an easy gift. Use code KRISTAGANTT for 15% off.

If you’re looking for some other options, I have lots of ideas! I love Pinhole Press for photo gifts. The personalized board books, puzzles, and memory games are so fun for children! And that’s just a small fraction of the items that they offer. Use code KRISTAG15 for 15% off.

Blurb has been my go-to for family yearbooks since before Evan ever entered the picture! They make it easy to compile your photos into a keepsake to remember all the fun things you did that year. I’ve been talking about family yearbooks for…well, years! 😆 Do you think 2024 will finally be the year, I’m able to get this course together?? 🤞 Use this link for 35% off of your first book at Blurb.

Artifact Uprising is well known for their premium photo books, prints, and photo calendars.

No matter who you’re shopping for, you’re sure to find something personal and unique in one of the above sites. Reach out if you need any help designing your products, ordering, or using your discount codes. I’m here to make your gift-giving dreams come true!

*As an affiliate, I earn commission from purchases made through these links, at no additional cost to you! Thanks for the many ways you’ve supported my small business this year. I’m so thankful for you!

My Favorite Newborn Hacks | Charlotte, NC | Newborn Photographer

November 15, 2023

Have you ever wondered how I’ve captured the perfect sleepy photos of sooooo many newborns? It’s not by chance! My ten years of experience as a NICU nurse, ten years of photographing newborns, and having a child of my own have all helped me build up my skills in this department.

Of course there are times when no matter what I do, baby is wide awake during their session. As I’m sure you know, these babies have a mind of their own! However, there are a few things that will improve our chances of having a sleepy baby during their newborn session. I have a few tricks up my sleeve, which I’m happy to share! 😉

  1. As newborn as possible

The biggest key is to schedule our session in the first 7-10 days after birth. Babies are the most sleepy during this period. This isn’t always practical for your family or for coordinating our schedules, but that’s okay. I have a few more tricks that we can use for our session AND that you can use at home!

  2. Warm room

I keep my studio slightly warmer than usual. The rest of us might get a little toasty, but baby will love it!

  3. Full belly

I recommend that babies come to their session with a full belly. Also, we can sometimes sneak a bottle feed in while they’re still posed, if necessary, to keep them content a little longer.

4. White noise

After nine months in a very noisy place, babies are used to all of the “outside” noises being drowned out by whooshing sounds. White noise machine to the rescue!

5. Swaddling

Like many of these tips, this helps mimic the feel of the womb. A snug and warm baby is a sleepy baby! I happen to have more than my fair share of practice with this. 😆

6. Facial Massage

If baby is peaceful, but not quite ready to close her eyes, we can use a little facial massage as encouragement. Swiping your finger gently across the forehead and down the bridge of the baby’s nose, will encourage her to keep her eyes closed.

7. What you’ve learned so far!

You know your baby best. Any tricks you have learned in the care of your little one so far can help us too! I know babies, but that doesn’t necessarily necessarily mean I know YOUR baby. All babies have different needs and respond differently to certain calming techniques, so you let me know what works best!

5 Things I Wish Every Client Knew | Newborn Sessions | Charlotte, NC Newborn Photographer

November 08, 2023

After almost ten years as a photographer, I’ve built up a strong base of repeat clients. But whether I’ve known your family for years or it’s our first time meeting, there are five things I wish every client knew.

  1. I am a parent too!

If you follow me on IG, there’s no way you’ve missed that fact. 😉 I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be pregnant, to have a newborn, or to try to wrangle a wild toddler. Combine this with over 10 years of experience in the NICU, and just know that whatever the situation, it’s probably nothing new to me!

2. Remember what you’re here for.

I want to accurately capture your family and the love you all have for each other. If you are anxious or stressed about the session or your hair, etc., it will show in the images. Make sure you prioritize getting ready but also remember that the outfits, shoes, and jewelry don't make the photo. Remember to be "in the moment" and enjoy what the session is all about. Every image doesn't have to be picture perfect; I want the connection of the family and your interactions, not just a family smiling at the camera. But of course we'll get that one too. 😊

3. Trust the process.

You may think that we haven't gotten any "good" shots or worry that I didn’t spend enough time on a certain pose, but most of the time, clients are pleasantly surprised with what I deliver. Not every session will be that way, but 99% of the time, clients say "wow!" or " I can't believe you got so many good ones!"

4. I’m honored to join your journey.

I cherish the opportunity to capture these highlights as your family grows over time. One of the serious perks of this business is getting to know your family and photographing you again and again!

5. I think of you when I do the dishes.

No, really! I work hard to keep my home clean so you’re not distracted by a messy kitchen on the way to my studio. 😆

Why You Should Hire a Photographer for a Private Santa Session Instead of Going to the Mall

November 02, 2023

Why Hire a Photographer for a Private Santa Session?

The enchantment of the holiday season often revolves around the magical figure of Santa Claus, bringing joy and wonderment to children and adults alike. For many families, a visit to a mall Santa has become a traditional annual event. However, there is an alternative option that ensures an even more memorable experience – a private Santa session with a professional photographer.

At Krista Gantt Photography, we understand the importance of capturing those cherished moments with Santa Claus. That’s why we are about to celebrate our seventh year hosting private Santa sessions! Here are a few reasons why hiring a photographer for a private Santa session surpasses the mall Santa experience in creating lasting memories:

Personalized Attention and Time

A visit with mall Santa can sometimes feel rushed and impersonal due to the high demand during the holiday season. However, a private Santa session allows you and your loved ones to have dedicated time with Santa, ensuring a more relaxed and personalized experience. I work hard to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, fostering genuine connections and capturing the true spirit of the season. Private portrait sessions provide you with photographs of your children experiencing the excitement of meeting Mr. Claus himself.

Attention to Detail

When working with a professional photographer, every detail is carefully considered. From the backdrop selection to the lighting, we work carefully to create a magical setting that complements your family's style and preferences. Each photograph is meticulously composed and edited, resulting in high-quality images that truly reflect the festive atmosphere of the holidays.

Over the years I have held sessions on my back porch, in my studio, and even in my own den depending on the backdrop I was trying to accomplish. I was very thankful I made the decision to hold the sessions indoors last year because it turned out to be 70º in November. Poor Santa would have been melting outside! (It looks like it may be the same again this year!)

Authentic Interactions

While mall Santas try their best to engage with numerous children, the ensuing line can limit the amount of time spent with each child. In contrast, during a private Santa session, your family will have an opportunity for genuine interactions with Santa Claus. We skillfully facilitate these precious moments, capturing the wonder, joy, and sometimes even the shy smiles, resulting in images that will warm your heart for years to come. The lack of distractions allows for a more relaxed and memorable encounter, ensuring that the true spirit of Christmas shines through.

For years we hosted Santa and Mrs. Claus, until they decided to retire. I started hosting a fabulous new Santa last year, which turned out wonderfully. He actually owns his own professional Santa shop and a Santa school, where he trains other Santas across the country. He even custom designed a new suit just for our sessions!

Flexibility and Convenience

Booking a private Santa session provides you with flexibility in terms of time and location. You can choose a time that works best for your family, ensuring a stress-free experience without the constraints of a crowded mall and an hours long wait. At Krista Gantt Photography, we believe that the memories created during the holiday season should be preserved in the most beautiful and authentic way possible. Our private Santa sessions offer a unique and personal experience, ensuring that everyone is in high spirits and ready to embrace the holiday cheer. This convenience allows you to truly savor the experience without the anxieties often associated with crowded environments.

With a private portrait session, you have the opportunity to personalize the experience to suit your child's comfort level. You can communicate any specific requests or considerations beforehand, allowing Santa to create a warm and inviting environment that fosters trust and confidence. This customization ensures that every child feels safe to express their dreams and wishes with Santa, resulting in heartwarming and authentic interactions.

I can’t wait to capture the magic of the holiday season as your children meet Santa this year!
